My Country 'Tis of Thee

This blog could have just as easily been titled "Pray", for that's what we need to be on on knees doing.

Has anyone else noticed that our country is on the slippery slide to the welcome mat of the devil? Has our country totally forgotten the 10 Commandments? Have "we, the people" turned our back on all that is godly, holy and pure?

Recently, I prayed that God would bring us back to our roots; that He would take us back under His wing and that we would be brought back to where our forefathers envisioned us. We have fallen so far from what our country was intended, and I can point out every commandment that we have forsaken.

What has happened to "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife" and "You shall not commit adultery"? We are living in a country where adultery is almost a badge of honor; where it is so commonplace that is has become ordinary.

What has happened to "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor" and "You shall not steal"? Satan is the father of lies and right now he has many children.

What has become of "You shall not commit murder"? You cannot turn on the news without hearing of at least one murder in our own neighborhoods.

Where does the commandment of "You shall honor your father and mother" stand today? Do we see much of that? Do we, as Christians, honor our own father and mother, or do we, like the world, push them aside as mere old people who have no value?

Do we "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy"? Or, do we use that as another day to run errands? Is the Sabbath just another day in the week to us?

How about "You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God"? It is a daily occurance to hear God's name taken in vain, not once, but many times. Have we gotten so used to hearing it that we have become hardened to it?

What has happened to "You shall not make idols in the form of anything..."? What are the idols in our lives? What are we spending precious time on or doing that could be used instead to glorifying God?

And most important, do we still hold to "You shall have no other gods before Me"? Is God still number one in our life? Is it God, and God alone that is in our heart and soul? Is God the One in whom we put our trust, faith and hope?

O America, how far we have fallen. How far we are from what was intended...how little does our country resemble what we were at the beginning - from what was intended.

So I say - PRAY!! Pray for all you're worth, pray as if your life depended on it, because it does.

Who will join me in praying for our country?

With love and trembling - Sandra

It's sad but I have to agree. I was praying before the election, I am glad that you posted this because I needed to hear it. I will be praying with you.

I will join you in praying. I love the title, remembering its Gods country, love that. Trying not to Grumble about it all, knowing now that my grumbling is toward my God who is in charge of it all, as it is in our lesson this week, wasn't that great timing?

this was wonderful! I will also pray that my life will be a more brillian light to draw them to what God intended our lives to be like!

I love that you listed each of the 10 Commandments. In bible study earlier this year, we were reminded that most of us could remember all of the ingredients on a Big Mac, but how many of us know all of the 10 Commandments. What a good reminder - and something great to think about how we are doing with each one.

I definitely need to do a better job of praying for my leaders on a more regular basis - another great reminder.

Last week I read two quotes that were inspring.

"Our hope is in the Lord, and we cannot forget that. He doesn’t make mistakes. He hasn’t lost control of things." — Dr. James Dobson

"I've read the last page of the Bible. It's all going to turn out all right." — Rev. Billy Graham
